Who are we?
Publisher Services is a group of experienced typesetters, designers and editors whose professional commitments fequently overlap. Working either as a team or as individuals we can offer a service tailored precisely to your needs. Whether you are publishing books, journals, conference proceedings or research papers, we can attend to any or all of the processes involved in their production.
Chris began his career as a typesetter in 1997 when he joined Sheffield Academic Press. It was here that he gained a thorough grounding in the world of academic publishing, on many occasions being called upon to subedit the books and journals he was assigned and shaping the material into the required house style prior to the start of the main editorial process. He became a freelancer in 2003, which has led to a broadening of his publishing experience, with new clients and with new technologies. The world of journal publishing in particular has become more focused on electronic distribution, and Chris has kept pace with these developments. He is responsible for the management of Equinox Publishing's online journals and for the distribution of XML metadata to content providers such as Swets and EBSCO. He is currently working to convert the Equinox Publishing back catalogue into e-books. Chris can be contacted at
Iain joined Sheffield Academic Press in 1995, having spent several years in different employment areas where he learned to use almost every type of computer around at the time (excluding, ironically, the Mac). As the Press was based exclusively around Macs at the time, there was a feeling of 'Oh look, another OS to learn-no worries!' Owing to his wide experience with different computer systems and interest in how they all worked Iain became the Technical Support/Troubleshooter at the Press as well as the Senior Typesetter (and Font Technology/Character Set 'guru'). He has constantly been looking for new ways to improve the quality and the throughput (typesetting-wise) by trying new computer software and ways of working, a process which is still ongoing. Iain can be contacted at
Mark is a graphic designer with nine years’ experience in publishing and, before that, four years’ experience in print and reprographics. He has been involved in the production and marketing of academic and trade books in many subjects across the arts, humanities and sciences. He trained as a graphic designer, copywriter and editor but specialises in graphic design. He uses his training in other areas to streamline the production process and to communicate knowledgeably with clients and colleagues. Mark can be contacted at
Audrey is an editor and indexer with a BA and MA in Biblical Studies. After acquiring ‘A’ levels in French, German and Russian, she brought up a family and then went to the University of Sheffield as a (very!) mature student. Here she added Classical and New Testament Greek, Biblical Hebrew and Latin to her linguistic knowledge. Her relatively short, but varied, career in publishing began in 2001 with Sheffield Academic Press, where she quickly moved from making pre-production assessments of manuscripts, through proofreading and copy editing to full project management. Audrey can be contacted at
